Keep pests at bay with an ultrasonic pest repeller

Electronic pest control devices are readily available from a f different places such as internet or mail order catalogues. There are two different types of electronic pest control devices namely Ultrasonic and Electromagnetic devices.

How Does An Ultrasonic Pest Control Device Actually Work?

An ultrasonic pest repeller works by emitting high frequency, short wavelength sound waves that can scare certain pests. These sounds cannot be heard by humans but they are heard by insects and other small mammals like rodents.

Cockroaches and mosquitoes are an example of insects that can pick up high frequency sounds. They pick the sounds through their antennae which have special hairs tot pick up the sounds.

One thing to remember is that just like light, the ultrasonic high frequency sounds stop once they hit a solid area. This gives little opportunity for them to go behind an area, like wall, and hide.. So always place the device near the creature's tunnels.

Overall, ultrasonic pest control devices are a safer alternative to eliminate pesticides

Ranges and Features of Ultrasonic Pest Control Devices.

Different ultrasonic pest controllers have different ranges of frequency. In order to choose the right one, you need to first identify which kind of pest you actually have. For example, if you have cockroaches, mice or rats, the Viatek ultrasonic pest repeller may be for you. It is a plug in the device without cords it doesn't harm pets. It comes with an amazing 100,000 hours use and the bulbs don't ever have to be replaced. It can also act as a nightlight and it only uses a little electricity. So it literally costs only a few dollars a month. It is advised, that you do not keep this in the same room where your pets reside.
Other devices include:
  • Black and Decker EP1100
  • Royal Ultrasonic pest repellent
  • Black and Decker EX900
  • Sunbeam Ultrasonic/Electromagnetic SB200
  • Dotcoms- iKitchen Sunbeam ultrasonic pest repeller with nite light SB310
Each of the above aims to do the same thing but they each have slight differences which make them unique.

Black and Decker EP1100

This is a heavy duty inaudible ultrasonic pest control, and it is safe to use around pet dogs, cats, fish and birds.

This pest repellent is ideal for large rooms and needs to be placed on a flat surface. It claims to work within two weeks but it is recommended that you use it even after the pests have gone.

You can control the frequency of the sounds, the instructions will tell you how to do this, and it is recommended that you change the frequency frequently to annoy the pests. It can be used anywhere in the home but it should be kept away from pets such as small rodents and tarantulas.

Royal Ultrasonic Pest Repellent

This ultrasonic pest repeller works by changing its frequency constantly and it is suitable around dogs, cats, reptiles and birds. It can be plugged into any 120 V AC outlets and it is not to be used outside.

This is a small device. So you may need several in the same room to eliminate all pests.

Black and Decker EX900-A-TP1

The EX900-A-TP1 is smaller than EP1100 though it covers a large area. Unlike other devices, it can either be plugged in or it can run without batteries. It has variable settings and unlike the Royal ultrasonic pest repellent, it doesn't change the sounds automatically.

Sunbeam Ultrasonic/Electromagnetic SB200

This device is useful in the elimination of ants, spiders, mice and rats. It plugs into any 110v wall outlet and it is unique because it combines ultrasonic and electromagnetic forces to eliminate the pests. It has a childproof clamshell packaging.

Dotcoms I-Kitchen Sunbeam Ultrasonic Pest Control SB310

This multitalented pest repeller comes with a built in nite light and digital clock. It can be plugged into any 120 V AC outlets and it is ideal for use against pests such as rats, mice, moths, ants and spiders. This device also uses combined ultrasonic and electromagnetic forces in its elimination process.

The Black and Decker devices are idea for larger rooms though they are quite large themselves so you may prefer a smaller, plug in device. All devices reach different levels of frequency and most can be changed to varying levels of frequency

How Effective Are Ultrasonic Devices?

While the claims are great, it seems that ultrasonic devices do not always work well. This is because many pests get used to the levels of frequency and while it may annoy them at first, they can tolerate it as they hear more.

Obviously the devices that change frequencies are better than the ones that don't. This is because the pests don't get used to the sound if it is constantly changed.. However, these ultrasonic pest control devices are quite cheap.

Some ultrasonic devices can be used both indoors and outdoors but mostly they are meant for indoor use.

How Are Subsonic Pest Control Devices Different To Ultrasonic Devices?

Subsonic pest control devices are similar to ultrasonic devices. Subsonic devices create sounds that are too low to be heard by humans but they are effective against insects such as ants. Sometimes ultrasonic frequencies can be too high for insects to hear whereas subsonic devices create lower pitched sounds.

So if you do have a problem with insects, a subsonic device may be the device. Overall an ultrasonic pest repeller can help in some cases but they are not overly reliable.
